Inspiration Board

Circular economy and HRM: the opinion of HR managers and experts

Tuesday, 29 October 2019

As part of the Circular HRM project, our Belgian partner HR Square organised on 11 October 2019 an Inspiration Board on the theme of the circular economy within human resources management (HRM) in order to mobilise the knowledge and expertise of the actors involved in these topics.

For the record, the Circular HRM project, co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme, aims to develop a training programme for managers and human resources managers so that they can use a human capital management approach in their workplace that is based on the principles of the circular economy.

To ensure that the training meets the company's challenges as accurately as possible, the first step of the Circular HRM project aims to define what a circular economic practice is and identify existing practices that could meet this definition and therefore be considered as circular human resources management (HRM) practices.

HR Square is an information network on labour relations and HRM in Belgium. This network is a partner of the Circular HRM project and works in particular on the definition and identification of circular HRM practices. Thanks to its network, HR Square brought together on 11 October last, a dozen HR managers, academics and experts in circular economics and HRM to collectively explore the applicability of circular economics principles to HRM. The results of this day were transmitted to the University of Galway, which will define on this basis a methodology to target circular economic practices and to understand the dynamics in which such practices may have emerged.
